Ten Ways to Become a Captivating Storyteller By Mike Moore

People love to be told stories but are easily turned off when they are told poorly. Here are ten effective tips to make sure your stories are told well and captivate your listeners.

1. Be on the lookout for stories throughout your day. Stories are everywhere so carry a notepad with you and jot the story-line down in point form. Flesh it out later.

2. Know the story you are going to tell.

3. Keep it short, crisp and flowing.

4. Don’t be afraid to make it your own.

5. Tell the story don’t read it. Anyone can read a story not everyone can tell a story well.

6. Use your voice for dramatic effect.

7. Never let a story drag on and on.

8. Don’t get bogged down with detail.

9. Insert stories into general conversation whenever you get the chance. I heard the other day… I read in the paper recently about… I saw a man/woman in the coffee shop and….
These are just a few of the many ways to insert your story into conversation.

10. Never explain your story to your listeners. Let the story speak for itself.

Leader or Follower? by Mike Moore

A father wanted to enroll his son in a popular private academy to ensure a quality education. He proceeded to complete the application and when he came to the question, ” Is your son a leader or a follower?” he immediately wrote down…A FOLLOWER.

The next day he sent the completed application by mail to the school officials.
Within one week the father received a phone call from the registrar saying that his son had been accepted.
When the happy father asked why his son had been accepted so quickly the registrar said, ” Out of the 100 applications we received your son was the only follower. The rest were leaders. This guaranteed him a position.

Just You Wait   (Attributed to Leo Buscaglia)    Theme:Positive Thinking

On my way home one day, I stopped to
watch a Little League base ball game that was being played in a
park near my home. As I sat down behind the bench on the first-
base line, I asked one of the boys what the score was
‘We’re behind 14 to nothing,’ he answered
With a smile.
‘Really,’ I said. ‘I have to say you
don’t look very discouraged.’
‘Discouraged?’, the boy asked with a
Puzzled look on his face…
‘Why should we be discouraged? We haven’t
Been up to bat yet.’
