Humour in The Snow…(A true story)

Humour in the Snow… by Mike Moore

Life does bring about changes in our lives often without us realizing it. Such was the case with Carol ( my wife) and I recently.

The snow had fallen over night to the tune of 8 to10 cm. Carol, ( a Timmins girl who loves the winter) suggested that we go out and make snow angels on the front lawn… like we used to. Being a husband who always wants to please his wife, I agreed.

There we were standing facing one another on the front lawn ready to fall backward into the freshly fallen snow…laughing our hearts out. We fell, waved our hands and feet and voila the angels appeared.

Now hear comes the revelation..WE COULDN’T GET UP. Our minds were youthful but something weird had happened to our bodies. We could not stand up. I had to crawl over to the lilac tree and hoist myself up by grabbing on to the trunk. Then I could help my wife.

The laughter was something to behold……side splitting!!

Lesson learned? When you are of a certain age never make snow angels at the same time. Do it individually so you can be available to help the other up after the angel appears. The important thing here is to never stop wanting to make snow angels even if the flesh is weaker than it used to be.

True Story.

After one of my talks a man came up to me and said,” I bought your book ” Light Up With

Laughter” the last time I heard you speak and now I keep it in the bathroom and read it often.

” Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he added, ” I really find it moves me.”

I started to laugh and said,” Well , if you’re going to be moved that’s the place you want it to happen.”

The Road Less Traveled

My Marriage has unraveled because of Robert Frost.

When I take the road less traveled my wife insists I’m lost.

* What Can You Say After This?

I noticed that my gas gauge was pushing empty and decided to pull into a service station to fill up.

A nice young man about 35 years of age began filling the tank as I made small talk to pass the time.

He had a rather sad look about him so I said, ” How are things going, Buddy?” He looked at me and replied, ” Other than the

fact that I’m living from pay to pay, making minimum wage and find it impossible to get a woman to go out with me….Fantastic.

High Speed Cartooning for Fun and Profit

Learn the Art of Quick Cartoon Sketching

The one comment I frequently hear at my talks is this, “I wish I could
draw cartoons like that but I can’t even draw a straight line.” This is
nonsense. If you can draw a straight line, a circle, an oval and a
rectangle you can become a high speed cartoonist. I will show you
how in record time. Let’s get to it.

Six reasons speakers, consultants, trainers and teachers should
always draw cartoons in their presentations.
“Humor is like a rubber sword; it allows you to make a point without
drawing blood.” Mary Hirsch

1. They can get a point across quickly and clearly

2. They spark audience attention and interest. People love to see the
presenter actually draw to illustrate a point… but you’ve got to be
fast.

3. They can lighten up serious, heavy material

4. They promote audience recall of your content

5. Cartoons make your power point graphics come alive

6. They can direct and focus audience attention

There are two ways to draw and each depends on your comfort and confidence.

1. You can draw as you speak. This really impresses your audience but you have to be fast. You don’t want to lose your train of thought by taking too much time with your cartoons. You also don’t want to put your audience to sleep.

2. You can prepare the chart drawings before you begin your presentation. This would involve preparing your flip chart, overhead projector or power point drawings prior to your talk.
Let me teach you this fascinating art form in just six lessons.

True Story: In Heaven for Four Hours

By | Humour, laughter therapy, Self Help | No Comments

True Story…I WAS LITERALLY IN HEAVEN FOR FOUR HOURS.

I was Flying back from Edmonton Alberta after having spoken to the teachers of Yellowknife in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

My seat, as always, was in economy class which meant that I would sit there for four hours with my legs wrapped around my neck.

Just as I was trying to make myself as comfortable as possible before take-off, the curtain separating economy class from first class opened and a young buck in his early 20s approached me and said,” Hey Buddy, how would you like to fly to Toronto first class?” While I was a little bewildered at his offer my legs cried out to me, ” TAKE HIM UP ON IT…YOU FOOL!”

I quickly said , ” Sure thing, but why would you trade first class for economy?”

He bent low as if to whisper a secret in my ear that would threaten the safety of the free world if overheard. ” There is a cute chick going to be sitting in the seat beside you and I want to see if I can connect with her.”

Recalling my youth his offer took on a more reasonable tone so I quickly said, ” You’ve got a deal.”

There I was all the way back to Toronto with my legs stretched out in front of me, my own little table to hold my food and drink and a flight attendant fluffing my free pillow and asking if I were comfortable. every half hour or so. THERE IS A GOD!

I got off the plane first (as we in fist class always do) so I never did get a chance to thank him again or find out how he made out with the young woman. There are some mysteries we just have to live with. By the way, this has never happened again.
